Goodbye January...

Tomorrow starts a new month and I have to say I've been disappointed by myself this month.....
I've just learned that my income is going to be reduced so thankfully my husband has been working good hours the last few weeks and hopefully it will continue....
I've begun our taxes and can hopefully get them completed soon so that I may apply for Fin. Aid for school....
What's going to happen in Feb?
Not sure, I have no forseeable plans that are different from my daily life except Valentines day which marks my 5.5 years of marriage to Rob (if we're lucky we'll go out to eat and exchange a cheap-non-romantic gift like a dvd)... But i expect that in March Max will have a vet visit (probably just blood test & I'll need syringes) and near the end of that month I'll be looking for a dentist to fill my front tooth....So goodbye income tax return!
But to end the month I'll be watching some of my fav tv shows...
19 Kids & Counting - TLC- 8 pm
Big Love - HBO- 9 pm
Keeping Up with the Kardasians - E!- 10 pm

Book Review: 10,000 Ways To Live Large on a Small Budget

My latest library delivery....
I've skimmed almost every page of this book and I think it's great! It has an easy to read style, not like paragraphs but list style...so you can skip around if you like but I honestly think this book is something you either own or borrow to look up something particular and use just that piece of info....but I think owning is the best option because you can refer back to it...so if you need tips on how to make clothing last longer or to save money on food..So here are a few of my favorite sub-topics covered...
The best and worst places to stash cash in your home
10 beauty products you can make at home
13 ways to be nice that cost you nothing
And the chapters range from Food, Travel, Education,to Personal Finance and Home Improvement....
(There is ever a section on how to re-gift lol)

  • And don't get me going on the sequels coming...I just can't imagine some of them and some I can't wait and a few I just can't believe are still pumping out more... Transformers 3? Wonder what new cars they'll have....H.P. Deathly Hollows part 1 & 2? Don't read the books so I don't know what will happen except that soon enough it will come to an end (good thing Universal is just a 30 minutes ride and I can visit Hogwarts for myself later this year :)~ Pirates of the Carribean 4? JOY! I could watch Johnny Depp in anything! And it apears that the kids will have lots to look forward to, try old school stuff the parents can enjoy... The Smurfs, Yogi the Bear, Puss in Boots, Dr. Seuss' The Lorax...so many more...(I miss the Boomerrang channel :(
  • BTW Do you watch Lost? I've kind of watched it, hit or miss, haven't seen "every" episode but did catch most of last season and gotta watch the one (final one) that's about to start...See I watch more than just Reality TV..hehe...

My Guilty Obsession...

well...I'd say "obsesssion" is a bit strong...I just really like Teen Mom (16 & pregnant)...although....I strongly believe that people should wait until the time is right to have a kid and 16 is not even close to that time! (I like the old concept on falling in love, getting married, starting a life...then having a baby)....
So Teen Mom is a wrap! Although I might find valuable things about each Mama...My favs are Maci and Amber.....
Maci: She's from TN & Bentley is sooooo cute! However my heart breaks for her b/c of Ryan (baby daddy)...in fact I saw a preview of the renuion show (and it could have been taken out of context but..) it looks like he says something like "If we I didn't have a kid with Maci then I'd never talk to her again..." -Mouth Dropping- OMG -this is where I need to be censored b/c my honest opinion is that bad! What a frickin diappoint! Poor Maci & Bentley...There is a Daddy out there for ya somewhere lil one!
Amber: Midwestern girl! (I know a few teen mama midwesterns). Although she has her struggles...she is giving a lot of effort to better her life and be a super mom while doing it and Gary seems like a good daddy and maybe he can get Amber back b/c dude I totally almost cried when I saw Gary's poor lil heart breaking....I think they have a real shot at being a good family in the future!
The truth is that being a parent is hard...I have no children but I know this...and it doesn't matter if you're 16 or 36, people can still have the same struggles. It's just likelier that the older you are the the more together you have your life, ie jobs/school/career, independence, money, support....

Babies on the Brain

As I watch MTV's Teen Mom (& prepare for the finale) I can't up think in my head "I want a kid". Even though it's not part of the plan at the moment, I can't wait until Rob and I can be parents. Not so sure about being pregnant but once the lil booger is here I'm sure i'll be overjoyed! I guess in this sense maybe my patience could be a role model for somebody. Sure I could have a kid with my husband right now but who knows how that would affect our plan. So the plan we shall stick too....Married- Check, Finishing College/Start Career- In progress...then it's baby making time and the rest of the plan can fall into place (Rob college/career, buy house). Although it would be nice for Rob to be started with a career and for us to own a home...that's just to far away and we aren't getting any younger! I suppose the worst part is that I know at least 4 people who had babies less than 2 years ago and i ain't near any of them. No practicing changing diapers and burping....

Tomorrow...

I'll be cooking up some new things.....Broccolli Cheese Soup & Fried Chicken Legs...and you might say i'm "free balling" it because i'm not using a recipe....
For the soup I was ill-prepared and realized that all my recipes required cream or half'n'half and all i have is milk so i'm just gonna wing it, just add the normal soup stuff, take my broccoli stalks and blend them into a puree type thing and leave the florets whole and add maybe a little milk and lots of cheddar cheese!
For the legs....I looked up recipes on food network and alot of them included buttermilk so I just put my legs in a pie-plate and covered with abot a cup of buttermilk...all i had on hand leftover from a week or so ago (pancakes)...tomorrow i'm gonna heat up some oil to 325 and season some flour...presto..Fried Chicken...hopefully
I don't have a cast iron pan so i'm using a regular one and i'm hesitant about the fried chicken....and that's rare for me....it's one of those things that either you got it or you don't...
I'd love to see my brother make Homemade fried chicken.....lol

Menu Monday

Monday -Spaghetti w/ meatballs & garlic bread
Tuesday- Broccoli Cheese soup w/ Fried Chicken legs
Wednesday- Fish Tacos
Thursday- Eating Out
Friday- Chicken?
Saturday- Hot Dogs

I'm dye-ing

My roots are getting pretty bad, almost all the way to the scrunchie that holds up my hair on top of my head. And tomorrow i'm gonna bleach my roots and not re-dye them pink. I'm offically starting the long transformation to being all blonde in preperation for Nursing school (since at some point i'll be in medical centers and hospitals learning, i doubt they'll want a pink headed student since unaturaly dyed hair has unfortunant sterotypes). I'm kind of reluctant to do this but I know if i dye pink again it's just going to harder to convert. And at least this way i'll be able to avoid bleaching all all my hair at once because eventually the pink on the lower portion will grow out or get trimmed off. The last time I went blonde it took like 3 or 4 boxes of dye to get the pink out so i'm gonna do it slow this time, rather than 2 weeks before school. I have a hard time saying "never" so I'm not saying goodbye Mr. Manic Panic just see ya later...much later...probably when i retire if i even have the energy :(

My Saturday..so far...

My husband's schedule this week has been off kelter but it looks to benefit us because he just got home and tomorrow he'll be sent home early b/c he'll hit overtime!
Today I was slow starting (watched a movie & almost fell asleep watching some ghost adventure tv show) but after all that I....
fed and took out my doggies
scrubbed and soaked the bathtub
picked up the bedroom
dusted/cleaned funiture in bedroom
2 loads of laundry
folded and put away clothes

and it looks like we night get to go to the movies tonight!

Food Storage & Latter-Day Saints...

Yesterday I got a new delivery from the library... "Idiot's Guide to Self-Sufficient Living"... I skimmed through it and noticed they mentioned the Mormon's/LDS and how they have encourage food storage...they even mention a website but I didn't safe the spot so I searched the web on my own....
I think the food storage thing is smart and that reguardless of religious beliefs, anyone could benefit from it. I'm not Mormon but highly respect their religion as I'm sure they respect that fact that at this point in my life I'm just a plain old Christian.

I love to travel....

I'd go as far to say my travel goals/dreams are probably on the over ambitious side....As with life, the older you get the more you tend to "see" the most easily achievable goals vs the I'll put it on my bucket list but may not happen....What keeps me from crossing these places of my list? I don't have kids to keep me grounded, nor a demanding job, however the main thing I don't have is money! But i keep dreaming....
My latest places of interest:
Louisiana
Alaska
Chattanooga
Have you spent time in these places? If yes, I'd love to hear about them, as the Internet can only give you so much info or ideas....
Alaska:
Looks like a unique awesome place for outdoor experiences, even my husband is interested. But I when day dreaming of a future vacation, I can't seem to decide if I'd want to go in the wintertime for a snowy wonderland experience or during most tourist adventures happen (may-Sept). It also seems like ya really gotta go to a few different cities to get a full circle experience. Since it might be a once-in-lifetime kind trip I'd probably wanna hit up a day cruise (for whale watching), a zip line thingy, see some wildlife or something, and glaciers!
Chattanooga:
It's a town I've "driven by" many times on 75 but never stopped and made a day trip or mini vaca out of it. It looks friendly like other parts of TN, with a great river but what can you do there? I'm not really sure. I see this a potential alternative to Knoxville metro as a 2nd TN city I could maybe learn to love (+ offers Master in Anesthesiologist).
Louisiana:
Well it's always been a state that peaked my interest, plus I love Cajun food! It's been the back drop of a few movies/tv that i love and one of my very good friends has lived there...so i'm interested....not to mention Mardi Gras and it's the only state with "Parishes" instead of like towns or whatever...It is surely unique like no other state....But I don't just wanna eat Benignets in New Orleans, I wanna see what is outside the monstrous city. But again...where do u go outside NO? I'd almost say this is a 2 tripper state b/c I've heard bad things about NO crime and parking is slim so driving to NO seems like a risk to my car, especially if i go for Mardi Gras. So of course if i'm driving to maybe 2 different parts of the state I'd drive my car, maybe Lafayette or Slidell or Shreveport.... It seems slightly like TN but Cajun fried...a few larger cities and alot of little in between...my kind place maybe...?...

My Tuesday...

  • My husband was called into work (not scheduled but the dude who was tried to get out of it a few days ago and he is supposed to pick up my husband's shift tomorrow since Rob worked for him -volunteered- Monday night) And this guy gave 2 weeks notice....Rob will probably get 40 hours this week but i hope i get at least one night with him home- Weekend is good for me :)
  • I exercised today...I that that is 3 days straight...go me!
  • I have gotten back into daily bible reading, in fact I've done 2-3 chapters a night for almost a week....super go me!
  • I experimented tonight with dinner- Calzones....made Rob a meaty one, mom and I Spinach, Artichoke, & Chicken....yummy!
  • Getting ready for some Teen Mom, after tonight only 1 episode left....
  • Went to walmart today too, Spent about $53...but I haven't been buying hardly any meat because I've been living off my frozen stockpile.....however...this is quickly coming to an end....waiting to clear out some room so i can make a trek to an Albertson's for B1G2 Beef/Pork....mine closed, gonna be a Hispanic Grocery store....sadness
  • I also relized that Rob will get an extra check this month because direct deposit customers get paid on fridays and regular check people have to wait until the following monday....Looks like we can definately add to our savings +++ (plus we canceled the med/eye insurance, kept dental- saving us almost $100/a paycheck. I guess this means no more Oncologist until I'm a nurse? I got fake boobs now so i suppose it can wait, right?)
  • trying to mention only Positive things but so disappointed b/c we got NO Mail today...WTF

I think if Rob gets Saturday night off (unlikely but fingers crossed) Definately will plan a date and maybe buy him his fav expensive Cold Stone Creamery ice cream....

Duggar Special...

Of course it's not a full return, just a "special"...
It'll be Jan 31st at 8 on TLC
This will the welcoming of baby 19, Joise...I'm sure it will be pulling on the heart strings and emotional considering the situation.....
As always, my heart and prayers go out to them and their family...I'm sure God is watching over them and hope that baby Joise grows stronger and healthier everyday!

Best place to live...

I found a website that gives you a quiz and then tells you the best cities for you to live in....I have 24 potential cities but I'm just going to list those that are in regions of the country I "might" ever consider.....
Hopkinsville, Kentucky- "Friendliest Place in Kentucky"
Aiken, S.C. - "A Thoroughbred Town"
Guntersville, Alabama- "A Lakeside Haven"
Paris, TN - "A Hidden Lakeshore Treasure"
Woodbury, TN- "A Pastoral Pleasure"
Clarksdale, Mississippi - "We've Got The Blues"
Murray, Kentucky- "By The Land Between The Lakes"
Lawrenceburg, Kentucky- "Gem of Bluegrass Country"
Lancaster, Ohio- "Ohio's Art Capital"
Alexander City, Alabama- "The South's Best Kept Secret"
Oxford, Mississippi- "Heart of The Ole Miss"
Sandusky, Ohio- "Eire's Port of Opportunity"
The best part is that you can click on the city name and it gives you all the good info, what is around the area, crime, weather, etc.....Go Here to see where you should live....

Do you watch Big Love?

I really enjoy it. It's about a Polygamous family that is Mormon. I say that way because in my opinion the Mormon faith is important to them, so is the polygamous principle but when it comes down to it...I think they are two separate things. Any person/family could be polygamous and be any kind of religion. It just happens to be that this story is slightly based off of those TV news shows we've seen with a "compound" of Mormon believers that take it a step too far and live in plural marriage and send their daughters off to be married young and dress in very very modest/old timey clothing, etc... But with the Henderson Family...mother (first wife) Barb was raised LDS style, while poor Bill was raised on a compound (like mentioned above)....the two get together and live a normal LDS lifestyle until Barb gets cancer....and somehow it ended up with her caretaker Nikki becoming second wife and then a third and Wham Bam--Polygamy! And with this regimented religion and illegal activity we get a struggling drama filled family.....Although the Henderson's still attempt to privately practice their Mormon faith, their choice in polygamy has kept them from being active in the LDS church (obviously!). At times it seems that the lifestyle is going to fail, but at others it seems like the only thing they have (considering the isolated and "fake" life they lead outside their homes).

It's on Sunday's at 9 on HBO, in the 4th season now... What do u think about them? Do you think this show is offense to Mormon's? Or is it just a mindless amusement like 95% of TV?
And what's up with the whole "Prophet" thing? Does there always have to be a living Prophet or is this just the compound/plural marriage twist to the religion?

Saturday Night Alone...

Maybe not technically alone, I do have my 4 furry kids hehehe
  • I just signed up for daily email from a verse a day. It will send me a nice bible verse with a devotional every morning. Good way to start the ay, right?
  • I also canceled my wow account! I haven't played it much since Thanksgiving and worse- my computer is not operating at the moment...so I may be done with WoW for awhile but i know one day, probably when I'm a nurse and can finally be done with school(at least for awhile).
  • I've playing the Xbox with my husband lately- I like left for dead 2 but lately Rob wants to play only Border Lands, i like it to but ya know me I LOVE zombies! Speaking of which, I'm going to spend my allowance on Zombie Land (Feb 2nd), i enjoyed it!
  • Speaking of movies....Have you seen the trailer for Dear John...looks like a sweet movie but looks can deceive ya! I really like the song they play during the trailer (Snow Patrol), sweet song! And the staring actress is our sweetheart from Big Love...BTW season 4 started last Sunday....Can't wait until tomorrow to catch episode 2! I have a feeling "Sarah" will be getting married a leaving town for awhile....
  • Me hubs watch Big Love religiously! I know it has lots of drama but in the end it is centered around the Mormon faith and a polygamous family. Maybe we are moving one step closer to a Sunday Church Service..?...

And that's the Tidbits of my thoughts......Amusing huh? lol

Travel Channel anyone?

Sometimes when I'm flipping channels I stop there, on the Travel Channel!
It's slightly education, I get to see places I might not ever get the chance too visit, and I can discover new ideas of places I want to "try" to get to before God calls me home....
I've recently been interested in Alaska....which is odd because I swear at one point in my life i said I had no interest in Alaska....So the other day I caught the tail end of the Extreme Alaska show and my husband woke up to it (and actually watched it). I couldn't have planned it out more perfect lol. He actually saw a couple things he'd like to do/see in Alaska. This is so thrilling to me because I love to travel but my husband is no so easily swayed. Sure he'd go along for the ride for me but I want him to enjoy it! Not want to spend the afternoon in a hotel with his Xbox lol.
I've looked into a few Alaska vacation sites but it is so hard to choose....do u go for a winter-wonderland adventure? Or go during more popular tourist times (may-sept)? Probably the latter because my husband wants to do a Zip line adventure and some weird salmon fishing...I want to go on a day cruise to whale watch and see glaciers and maybe some wildlife in one of the national parks plus we both wanna dog sled... Just for amusement I priced out some tickets for feb-march, it would cost about $1200 round trip for 2 adults! Not including those dreaded baggage fees...ugh! But at least you don't need a passport :)

Book Review: The Pioneer Woman Cooks...

This cookbook seems fairly good. It has general recipes (not specific to one type of food, just a little this and that). I love how each step of the recipes has a corresponding photo, so it helps ya identify what it should look like or how it should be. I've probably picked about 4 or 5 recipes that I may copy or try....however....I don't own this book but borrowed it from the library and for the first time ever it appears that a previous "borrower" has ripped out several sections of recipes, at least in 4 different spots. So I am missing some of the recipes and have some incomplete (like there is a picture of some kind of cake, but i have no clue what kind it is or what the ingredients are because someone stole it!). It amazes me how someone could abuse the library system this way. Is that hard to write out the recipe? Or to photo-copy it? I'm sure when I'll return the book but plan to make sure it is when they are open so that I can take it to the customer service desk and show them what has been done to this poor book. Since this book was just released to the library on Jan 1st it is brand spanking new and perhaps they can narrow down who did it!

wednesday!

  • I would like to remind or request a prayer for the Duggar's 19th child, Joise...I'm unaware of her current condition but know she was born about a month ago, very premature....
  • On my unending quest to have read the whole bible, I'm in the Book of Ruth! I probably should have completed this task by now but what can I say, I'm not perfect and sticking to "daily" things is a struggle for me at times....Amazing since time is on my side lol....
  • My desktop is "sick" again but this time it's different, making final attempt to fix it tomorrow and if fails will probably wait a very long time, until I drive up TN to see my brother (no date yet but thinking may-ish). He's a wiz at computers, hopefully one day I'll be closer so that if i had the day or weekend off I could just pop on over....wishful thinking...
  • Also on the Duggar thought... I have yet to hear of season 4 but wickapedia or whatever says that season 4 will premeire towards the end of Feb (23?), that would be great but I'd understand if recent events postponed the season....
  • I'd love to say I have solid plans to go the movies on saturday but most of the times my "plans" are just wishful thinking..lol....my hubby works 5 nights a week....b/c of things I don't want to mention...Saturday night is when I'd like to get out of the house and have a little fun....So my plans depend of 1. What time he gets off work, 11 pm would be the latest possible time he could get off and we'd make it to the movies (usually) 2. His mood and if he wants to go....
  • I think I'm gonna go back to blonde...by that I mean stop re-dyeing my roots pink after bleaching them....because I know, sooner or later (8 months) I'll be in school and have to conform....I'm cool with this since I've been pink a couple years now but I sign when I think will I ever be pink again? or blue?... Like some other things in life, I say yes....it may not fit my life right now but I will do it again...one day....Why do I feel like I'll be saying that alot? I'll always have the pictures though....

Tonight I'm gonna watch a little mindless TV while my hubby works, then I'm read my bible little more, say my prayers, and go to bed. As a christian I pray that God will bless us all and help us overcome our struggles along our road in life. I pray for my family and loved ones and my pets and whatever I'm struggling with at the moment, usually something with school or jobs or for peace and quiet....In my current place in life I've relized how good I had it not so long ago, not that my life is terrible, but just a few little things I don't have, I wish I still did. I trust in God and hope I'll seen enough get to enjoy those "little" things again...

It's Cold!

  • Right now it's 36 degrees (according to my local station WESH). I was out around 2 pm, dog walking, i had on jeans, a sweater & hoodie...I was still cold.....which made me think "goodness it's gonna be FREEZING when I take them out at 7"...we'll see...
  • Well I didn't get any snow but somewhere in Florida did, if you wanna check out the pictures, go here... (looks like Ocala/Citra area got some, I've spent plenty-o-time up there, it's about an hour or two north)
  • We went to walmart a couple days ago looking for a small heater, like the ones he had in TN (gave them to brother) but they were sold out. The news said last nigh that many local stores expect new shipments this week...I could use one right now...Rob you were Right! So I figure I'll either get one in store sometime this winter or order one online (looked at walmart and amazon) or I'll just wait until next winter but definately getting one similar to our cute little ones we did have. I figure it will be something we can use again when it gets unsually cold or if we move further north (weather 100 miles or 1000) we can use it! (note to self: if i move out of FL again must buy house with fireplace!!! & learn how to use one!)
  • I made some yummy homemade chicken noodle soup. Unfortunantly, as it was almost read my husband gets a call to come into work. It's ok though b/c that'll mean a decently good paycheck...he said he'll eat the soup when he gets off...maybe that will be slightly early :)...also missed out on our movie-cuddle date due to an unexpected meeting at work this morning.
  • Tomorrow is gonna be cold too and I think the end of next week or sometime it will atucally get back to the 70's for us...however who knows how long it will last.....

Arctic Freeze....

This is Jefferson City McDonalds (where i used to live in TN, brother took photo on his way home from work)
Sure is cold here.....

How about you? If you're reading this..please comment with your city/state and what your weather is like (temp? snow?)

My birth town made the CBS evening news....get it here.

My brother said that the roads are icy and nonstop snow- schools are closed all over East TN and thankfully will not have to make the long commute to work tomorrow.

It also looks like my hometown (Urbana, OH) may get into the single digits in temp this week.

I know I must be somewhat sadistic when I wish I could hop on a plane and fly there or to TN asap...To play in the snow until my toes are slightly frozen, come in to a blazing fireplace, curl up with a blanket and some hot chocolate or some homemade soup. That sounds like a perfect winter-wonderland kind of day.....(The grass is always greener or in this case the snow is always whiter? lol)

Snow in FL?

I was doing my normal routine and as i was searching for something to watch using my digital guide, I heard the weatherman say "flurries". He then said maybe a flake or two Friday night.....Apparently it can technically snow in part of the state...doubt I'll see the "flake or two"....

one of my favs

This one is a favorite houe plan of mine from the southern living website, go here for more info...

I don't have a house but...

Sometimes in my free time I like to look at them...
2 websites I've visited recently and sometimes often are:
Southern Living's home plans : basically just new home floor plans and stuff
Realtor.com : Current listing for homes that are for sale across the country
I guess I just like to get ideas and see what might be something similar to what I may have one day, as well as price/sizes I might afford. I can't wait until the day when my husband and I have a home. I feel like then I'll really be able to settle down and unpack/decorate/gather some things from my grammy's house. Although this venture it several years away and I don't exactly know where it will be or what we'll afford, I still enjoy "browsing"....

burr I'm cold!

The low tonight is 29 (high tomorrow is 30). The evening news said it will be by far the coldest night this season and we might even break the record. I have the heat going and put an extra blanket on the bed last night. I know I've spent a few winters in TN recently but after being back in FL for over a year, it's hard to imagine that I dealt with this for months and seemed to have no problems doing it- maybe it's just easier when it's cold everyday as opposed to go from wearing shorts the week of Christmas and now Jan 5th I'm in layers and actually out of flip flops (I wear them like 11 out of 12 months hehe).
Rob maybe getting a wee bit sick, it's been awhile, maybe like 9 or more months i think since anyone has been sick in my house. So i asked him (since he complains easily) is he still was interested in moving back north, he said yes. In about 5 or 6 months I'll probably thinking to myself "I can't wait until it starts to get cooler" but I'll still have about 5 or 6 months to go lol.
I would have posted pictures but my cold snap doesn't yeild pretty snow flakes, the grass doesn't even die-you'd all think I was lying because it's somewhat sunny and the grass is green...

What's New?

It's been a bit since my last real post.....
First of all, I'm watching a brand spanking new Paula's Best Dishes! Gotta love Miss Deen! First monday of year- Dr. Day! Went to renew my prescription-easy. Mom went to get her test results- she has iron def. & vit B12 def. Anemia(s). Hopefully her treatment program helps improve the situation.
In about 8 months I start school....can't wait to find out more info on it.
Snow in TN and it's cold here...we have freeze warnings and may even break a record on wednesday for temp. 30's at night (one night high 20's) & 40's/50's daytime high most of the week. Wonder what Ohio looks like?? White with snow & single digits? If I ever, ever move north I think I gotta have a fireplace....pretty & warm! Wonder if Ben is using our old heaters....
Not too much going on...gonna start my dinner....
